rei·ki - ˈrākē
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words:
Rei, which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power"
and Ki which means "life force energy".
Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."
There are various explanations of Reiki. The Association of Reiki Professionals defines it as a “subtle and effective form of energy work using spiritually guided life force energy. Reiki is the life energy that flows through all living things. Everyone has the ability to connect to their own healing energy, and use it to strengthen energy in themselves and help others. It is believed that a person’s “ki” or energy should be strong and free flowing. When this is true, a person’s body and mind are in a positive state of health. When the energy is weak or blocked it could lead to symptoms of physical or emotional imbalance.”
Along with other healing modalities like yoga, therapy and meditation, Reiki can aid in:
- rest and relaxation
- stress and pain reduction
- overcoming challenges
- healing from pain or trauma
- turning a page and looking forward, having hope
A Reiki appointment starts with a conversation to understand any emotional, physical or spiritual concerns. 60 or 90 minute appointments are held in a small room in Janet's home, relaxing on a massage table, with or without music. Reiki is not massage - the touch is gentle and energy-based. The feeling of Reiki can vary. Some feel nothing. Others describe warmth, tingling or twitching; feel “hands on” where there are no hands, and some see colors or feel energy flowing. Emotions may flow, as well. After the Reiki is finished, one may feel tired, relaxed, mellow, and reports include a good night’s sleep, a calmness or nothing at all. There is no right or wrong Reiki experience. Regardless of what is experienced, Reiki improves energy flow - which aids in health and healing.
