New Habits for Living Your Authentic Life - a 40-day retreat
March 2026 - Beaver Lake Lodge - Marble, CO
Finding Peace
It takes 40 days to master a habit. If you seek a healthy lifestyle for living your most authentic life, this is it! Receive established new habits, self-knowledge and experience to reinfuse your life.
Join together in the mountains of Marble, Colorado for an intimate gathering at Historic Beaver Lake Lodge, creating new habits and shedding outdated strategies. Connect with your insides and infinite energy - uncovering your powerful authentic being, the being that is always there. A daily spiritual practice creates a sacred space, for a sacred act with your sacred self - in community. Rise and retire with the sun, uncovering the layers of perceived protection, revealing powerful vulnerability. Allow deeply held emotions to emerge and release.
Enjoy daily pre-dawn kundalini yoga, healthy, whole foods, energy medicine, fun excursions, sacred ceremony, writing and a small group experience, in a serene mountain setting - with quietness, calming energy and dark skies at night. At the end of the 40 days anticipate feeling clearer, lighter, refreshed, connected, purified and grounded with new habits established, and a toolbox to draw upon for maintaining calm in a complicated and often chaotic world.

Meet the team
Janet - Practice Lead, Kundalini Yoga Instructor, Author, Energy Medicine Practitioner
Janet Howard’s love for the planet leads her on a healing path of truth. Her daily kundalini yoga practice, whole foods and a good night’s rest are the foundation of her healthy lifestyle and resilience for life’s inevitable challenges. Janet made healing her priority after the end of a 30-year relationship and a focus on her childhood trauma. She went through years of processing her past, with her spiritual practice holding her safe. Janet is a kundalini yoga teacher, master of shamanic energy medicine, reiki master and the author of her memoir, “Field Notes on Letting Go - a memoir of truth-seeking, healing, and personal freedom.” She hosts air bnb in downtown Amherst, MA, creating a healing respite for visitors from around the world. With her traumatic childhood and using food for comfort from a young age, her latest certifications include foundation for trauma-informed yoga and Kundalini Yoga for addiction. She enjoys the natural world, swimming in fresh waters, being with her kids and cat and adventuring. Janet is an introvert, doing best in small groups and taking time in nature to recharge. Janet doesn’t have it all figured out - she is a student and a teacher, seeing teachers around her every day. Learn more about Janet on her website at rosehip26.com
Amy - Event Coordination, Housekeeping, Planning Team
Amy Alexander resolved at a young age to get an education that would allow her to help others avoid the pain she felt as a child due to her parents divorce. Amy studied Marriage, Family and Human Development, and has a master’s degree from Utah State University. During her studies she discovered some of her current passions: storytelling, mentoring, whole-foods, and attachment-based parenting and healing. Amy enjoys wholesome nutrition, natural hygiene, nature, hiking, simplicity, nonviolent communication, and permaculture. In 2021 Amy became a certified facilitator for the Circle of Security Parenting (COSP) program. She values communication, collaboration, connection and community.
Amy dreams of living off-grid in a community where she can work, play, and live collaboratively with the land and others, which ties in perfectly with Amy’s life mission—
...to teach and support people in learning how to live in harmony with nature and humanity!
Karen Good - Owner of Lodge, Logistics, Budget
Karen Good and her husband Larry are the owners of Beaver Lake Lodge and Cabins. Karen is also the executive director of Jyoti Seeds for Change Foundation, a non-profit working both in Colorado and on the Big Island of Hawaii to support natural farming, local food access, and projects that connect the health of individuals and communities to land around them. Spending most of her time sitting behind a desk, she seeks to create more balance and better stress management in her life. Being interested but intimidated by Kundalini as a practice, and intrigued by Janet Howard’s work, she approached Janet about this 40 day workshop, believing that a big shift takes a big commitment. She is excited to join as a participant.

What is kundalini yoga?
Janet Howard, your kundalini yoga teacher and practitioner, stumbled upon Kundalini Yoga when she needed something, and her other habits weren’t enough anymore. She started exploring yoga in her 50s, found Kundalini Yoga and it felt right. She never looked back and is over six years into her daily practice. Learn more about kundalini yoga on webpage. A daily discipline is more important than the specific type of yoga or type of movement. Any committed practice that connects with one’s self and the infinite - with prayer, movement, breath, reflection and going inward, is what is important. Kundalini Yoga involves breathwork, movement, meditation and mantra. Janet is trauma-informed and creates a space where participants are in charge of their own bodies and experience. No experience is necessary.
What if I have allergies?
The pre-retreat questionnaire form will identify any sensitivities or allergies so that the chef can make accommodations. While the retreat will request no perfumes, there is no guarantee that someone won’t have a fragrance. The team will do its best to maintain a chemical-free environment and to meet food requirements.
Why 40-days? Why do this level of commitment?
The world we live in is often chaotic. Sometimes life is so busy, it feels out of control and perhaps not the life we imagined for ourselves. Add to that - life’s challenges, and turning a page. Whether getting over an illness, a break-up, a move or other big event, painful and often-challenging experiences offer opportunities for growth. While many envision a spiritual journey as rainbows and sunshine - it’s only by revealing wounds, noticing negative thought patterns, false beliefs and worn-out coping mechanisms that an individual can make progress in living their most authentic and healthiest life. Light doesn’t exist without dark, working towards a balancing of the feminine and masculine within each of us.
Once a practice is fully established, it may be hard to imagine life without it and one may wonder how they ever got by before. Whatever the reason for pondering the retreat, consider whether there is a readiness to bump into one’s own resistance. Ask yourself if you are ready to step away from your life and immerse yourself in the experience. Pushing through our own resistance is part of the experience and should be expected.
Note: This is not a recovery or mental health offering. If there is an active addiction to alcohol, drugs or other substances or acute mental health issues requiring specialized, daily, professional care, this retreat is not for you. Consider a physician or therapist appointment to ascertain whether the time is right. We hope to repeat this annually - we shall see. 🙂
What will the day consist of?
4:30 alarm - Drink a glass of lemon water. Apply almond oil, take a cold shower and meet in the yoga room by 5:00 am comfortably dressed, on your mat and ready for practice. You may bring water if you wish and a warm coverup like a sweatshirt and socks.
5:00 - 6:30 yoga - Kundalini Yoga Practice - with breathwork, movement, meditation and mantra - no experience necessary.
6:30 - 7:30 Breakfast
Seva: Selfless Service - dishwashing, food preparation or other daily chores will be a way to give back to the experience.
9:00 Group Movement Activity (optional) (Time will vary depending on activity.)

12:00 Lunch
1:00-2:00 Rest Time

Some evenings or days will offer an activity and schedule will shift to align with excursions, ceremony, hot springs and other adventures.
Why pre-dawn Practice?
While the benefits of a spiritual practice are impactful any time of day, the pre-dawn hours are the most powerful - when the veil between the practitioner and the infinite is its thinnest. And while people have busy lives and often do not have time for a long pre-dawn practice, focused intention, even for a few minutes, is powerful to set one’s day in motion. I (Janet) learned first hand why the predawn is important (I allowed some old, unhealthy habits to creep in when I started sleeping later.) With people’s responsibilities and busy lives, any time of day is worthwhile. We are all different and each person will find out what works for them. During this 40-day reboot, we will be rising before the sun and be in community during this powerful time of darkness and then day.
What if I have to work?
There will be approximately four hours of day time available for people to put in some work time. There is no time built in for an 8-hour work day. It is understood that this will be necessary for some of you. There is wifi available. The preference is to be off electronics altogether, but the team recognizes that this is not possible for everyone. The addiction to phones and scrolling impacts the brain, creating a buzzing and a need for constant stimulation. Slowing down, allowing oneself to feel, clearing the head - they are starting to feel like distant states of being. Those that were raised with phones may not know anything but this state. Taking a deep break from electronics can clear the head, and allow beautiful, pure emotions like love, like peace - to radiate from within. It takes an effort to reach this state and it’s unforgettable.
What if I want to Leave?
The team urges participants to check in with themselves, counselor, physician and/or friends to ensure there is a readiness for a 40-day experience. And while participants are not “forced” to do anything, those that make the effort will receive the maximum impact. There will be moments of resistance - this is inevitable. And like any 40-day practice - it feels like it’s going very slowly - and then - you’re there. How did that happen! If the experience ends up to be too much or not your cup of tea, you are certainly free to cut the experience short, but, there is no refund.
The planning team is happy to answer any other questions and address any concerns. Email Janet Howard at janet@rosehip26.com and set up a call for further discussion. Response will be within 48 hours.
What is lodging like?
The Historic Beaver Lake Lodge and Cabins is a family-run destination in the mountain town of Marble, Colorado. You can join the retreat in your single cabin or lodge room (or enjoy a double occupancy). Learn more about the lodging on the Beaver Lake Lodge and Cabins website.
What is mantra?
Mantra is the science of sound, using words for spiritual power. Mantra creates an energetic vibration that is extended into the world - the universe. It lifts up the practitioner and sends a vibration out that has no bounds. Mantra is not about the person’s voice or ability to “sing.” Anyone can chant mantra. The energy emanates from the entire being - and with intention is a tool that can be pulled on for whatever is needed - stuck in traffic? Overwhelmed? Scared? Feeling down or bitter? Chant and listen to mantra. Learn more on Janet’s website. The group will chant one mantra to accompany a kriya for five days before moving onto a new kriya and new mantra to explore.
Before every Kundalini Yoga practice, practitioners tune in with the Adi Mantra. “Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo” chanted three times. “I bow to divine wisdom.” We also chant the mantra of protection Aad Guray Nameh - three times. Aad Guray Nameh: I bow to primal wisdom - Jugaad Guray Nameh: Through time I bow - Sat Guray Nameh: True wisdom I bow - Siri Guru Devay Nameh: Great unseen wisdom I bow.
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
What if I want to skip a day?
A spiritual practice is called a discipline because that’s what it is - a disciplined practice. The consistency and persistence is key in establishing a firm foundation that holds you as you manage life’s mountains and valleys. It prepares you for the tough days. However, if you feel exhausted or sick, you may decide to skip a day. Just remember, the practitioner gets out what the practitioner puts in. This can be a slippery slope because missing one day can lead to another and the outcome will not be as powerful as going every day. No one will be forced to do anything they don’t want to do - you get to decide. And while it is up to you - those that make it to the mat - even on tough days - actually especially on tough days - will get the most in return. It’s on those tough days where emotions bubble up and are released - important experiences for healing. But back to YOU - it is up to you how much you participate - we know everyone will take care of themselves first and that is the most important take away - loving yourself the most. Sometimes what we want and want we need are entirely different things - keep this in mind when facing resistance - making it to the mat is empowering - maintaining your discipline even on days when it feels like a momentous lift.
Why are we writing?
Writing is a powerful way to explore your life experience, tease out life lessons, gain clarity and heal. Creating a writing habit is a way to tap into creativity, feed the soul and embody earned wisdom. Janet’s healing memoir is accompanied by a pondering workbook with writing prompts to facilitate further exploration of the landscape of your life.
Can I bring alcohol, gummies, sugary snacks with me?
The 40-day retreat is for purification and maximum healing. To best clear the head, heart and auric body, the team encourages abstinence from drugs, alcohol, caffeine and sugar. The experience is not a recovery center, so if this doesn’t seem possible, please make an informed decision whether this experience is right for you. There are certain diagnosed medical conditions where a prescribed amount of THC has proven to enable a good night’s sleep. The team doesn’t want to prohibit participation, due to diagnosed sleep disorders and will address each situation individually. Please bring any issues like this to the attention of the team upon registration and payment to ensure it’s a good fit.
