rei·ki - ˈrākē

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words:
Rei, which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power"
and Ki which means "life force energy".
Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."

Experience the benefits of Reiki - for healing, anxiety, pain management, sleep challenges or turning a page in life.

I was doing reiki before I knew I was doing reiki. I naturally have used my hands and gentle touch to reduce stress, balance energy and increase flow. I became a reiki master in 2014. Learn more about my training here.

What is Reiki?

The Association of Reiki Professionals defines reiki as a “subtle and effective form of energy work using spiritually guided life force energy. Reiki is the life energy that flows through all living things. Everyone has the ability to connect to their own healing energy, and use it to strengthen energy in themselves and help others. It is believed that a person’s “ki” or energy should be strong and free flowing. When this is true, a person’s body and mind are in a positive state of health. When the energy is weak or blocked it could lead to symptoms of physical or emotional imbalance.”

Along with other healing modalities like yoga, therapy and meditation, Reiki can aid in:

  • rest and relaxation

  • stress and pain reduction

  • overcoming challenges

  • anxiety reduction

  • healing from pain or trauma

  • turning a page and looking forward, having hope

  • support while traveling, missing family

  • palliative care -

  • sitting vigil

A Reiki appointment starts with a conversation to understand any emotional, physical or spiritual concerns. 60 or 90 minute appointments are held, relaxing on a massage table, in a health care facility, hospice or in your home, with or without music. Reiki is not massage - the touch is gentle and energy-based. The feeling of Reiki can vary.  Some feel nothing.  Others describe warmth, tingling or twitching;  feel “hands on” where there are no hands, and some see colors or feel energy flowing. Emotions may flow, as well.

After the Reiki is finished, one may feel tired, relaxed, mellow, and reports include a good night’s sleep, a calmness or nothing at all. There is no right or wrong Reiki experience. Regardless of what is experienced, Reiki improves energy flow - which aids in health and healing.

“I have used many different kinds healing treatments and body work to reduce tension and stress. I thought I preferred the more intense treatments, especially deep-tissue massage. I thought I had to experience the strong sensation to release the tension in my body. I was delighted and surprised to realize that this is not true. Janet’s approach was gentle. It felt like she was barely touching me, but I could feel her presence and healing energy. I felt calm and relaxed. That night, I slept better than I had in weeks. Typically, I wake in the night and have difficulty getting back to sleep due to ruminating thoughts. I am sure I slept well because of the Reiki treatment. As a practitioner, Janet is generous, kind, informative, present and professional. I would happily return for more Reiki sessions with Janet and make it an integral part of my healing.”

What People Are Saying

“This was my first time getting a Reiki treatment and I really didn’t know what to expect. Janet immediately made me feel comfortable and at ease and explained enough (but not too much!) about what would be happening over the next hour. Truthfully, I’m still not sure I can explain how Reiki works, nor do I know exactly what she did, but all I know is, I felt amazingly relaxed and calm in a way I hadn’t felt in a long time. Janet’s approach is so gentle and reassuring, and I felt held in a profound way, even though there wasn’t a lot of pressure in the hands-on work. At the end of the session, I felt like I was floating on air, as if so much pressure and tension had been released and the feeling lasted for quite a while. I couldn’t recommend Janet more highly. She has such a healing presence”
